Lots of reasons. Buying a book supports the author financially way more than borrowing a copy from the library. I like to make notes on books and that’s frowned upon with library books. I often re-read books and it’s easier to do that if I have my own copy. I’m not anti Library at all, nor am I anti used-book store.

The atmosphere that surrounds bookstores is amazing and it feels nice to hold books in your hands before buying them. I've never used online stores until 2020. Obvious reasons forced me to learn to use online stores, at least the ones that operate within my country. While it's nice to get books delivered to you, I still prefer visiting bookstores.

(I do not own any rare first editions, but I suppose those would count.) But books are investments in other ways that matter.
