The geography of Toronto, Ontario, covers an area of 630 km 2 (240 sq mi) and is bounded by Lake Ontario to the south; Etobicoke Creek, Eglinton Avenue, and Highway 427 to the west; Steeles Avenue to the north; and the Rouge River and the Scarborough–Pickering Townline to the east.
It is 9,984,670 km2 or 3,855,100 sq miles (land: 9,093,507 km2 or 3,511,023 sq miles; water: 891,163 km2 or 344,080 sq miles) which makes it slightly less than three-fifths as large as Russia and slightly larger than Europe. Covering 41% of northern North America, the country is divided into ten provinces and three territories.
Despite its deep ravines, Toronto is not remarkably hilly, but its elevation does increase steadily away from the lake. Elevation differences range from 76.5 metres (251 ft) above sea level at the Lake Ontario shore to 209 m (686 ft) ASL near the York University grounds in the city's north end at the intersection of Keele Street and Steeles Avenue.
